Monopaulize Challenge – Days 6 to 13

Monopaulize Challenge: Days 6 to 13

Monopaulize Days 6 - 13

So I haven’t provided any updates on the Monopaulize challenge for the past 7 days and it’s time for me to make a  comeback! The past week has been really crazy and I’ve been really short on time. I have been spending alot of time with some family, showing them around the City and meeting up for dinner. After all, how often does my family travel more than 10 hours to get here? Furthermore, I hadn’t updated my daily status given that the goals I had set up on July 5th was fairly straightforward: 1) Write 15 articles and 2) Get ideas and do kW research on second niche site.

What Time Did I Get Up

For the past week or so, I’ve gotten up at about 6:45 am on workdays and 8:30/9:00 am on weekends. After about a week of experimenting waking up 2 hours before I have to leave for work, I realized that this wasn’t really working out for me. I wasn’t merely as productive in the morning as I was at night. There were days last week whereby I got up at 5:30 am but went to bed at midnight….which meant that I only got 5-6 hours of sleep. Not good.

I’m now reverting back to my old schedule so I can spend more time at night -when I’m most productive –  to focus on the goals that I’ve set.

Maybe I’ll try out the morning schedule again later to see if it works out; only this time, making the change more gradual. For now, I’m sticking to the old schedule.

What Did I Accomplish The Past Week

So, let’s recap what goals I had set out for myself for the past week:

1) Write 15 secondary articles based on the kW research. Each of these articles should be at least 700 words each.

2) Come up with a list of ideas for the second niche site and see how competitive these are (on the back burner)

Well, I definitely didn’t get to goal #2, but I have completed I would say 11 articles, all of which are greater than 700 words. While this means I have to play catch up soon, I expected this to happen when I am spending my weekends out with family. Yup, I probably only worked 1 hour during this past weekend.

Resources Committed

This past week, I spent about 2 hours for writing each article. This amounts to about 20 – 25 hours solely on article writing.

I had also started checking out many other blogs which I intend to reach out to in the near future. I reached out to a like-minded individual last week and actually had a 40 minute Skype call! We share our experiences and I was able to validate many of my doubts/concerns based on the experiences he had shared with me. It feel great to know that there are MANY others who are aiming to be outside of the norm.

What I Learned

Distractions are a pain! I think one of the main reasons why I work better at night is because everyone’s asleep and there’s no one to disturb/distract me! On the weekends, overcoming distractions are extremely challenging (especially when you have family visiting). I’ve also learnt that I can finish an 700 – 800 article within 1.5 hours if I really focus on it. Otherwise, it could take up to 3 hours. So all in all, from now, I’ll stop the music playing when I’m working and make sure I do not have any web browsers open when I’m working.

What Was Challenging

One of the main challenges I constantly face is time management. While I do put in my best effort to meet the goals I have set out, I often times spend much more time that is needed on a given task. There are two factors for this:

1) Distractions

2) Not knowing what to do or how to do something

I think what I’ll try to do is set up a schedule, which will hopefully force myself to complete my goals within that time frame. Any tasks that couldn’t be completed within that time frame will have to be delayed (which is not something I take lightly)! I think this will also allow me to start getting in the habit of not fill my time up with “unproductive work.”

Goals for Tomorrow

I only have 1 goal for tomorrow……and that is to:

1) Finish writing one EPIC informational article, and write one product review article

This informational article is more of a fun article that I did some kW research on and gets about 700 searches per month. While any traffic I get from this kW will probably not convert, I think it is indeed helpful and relevant information for readers of the site.

We’re approaching the middle of July and I’m barely done with content creation for my first niche site. How am I to replicate this two more times in 15 days or so?
